A new Wellness Center, complete with medical offices and a new parking garage, is on its way to Winter Park.

The total project encompasses 169,991 square feet, including a 41,508-square-foot Wellness Center, 16,884 square feet of new medical offices, 24,970 square feet of common public use areas and an 86,628-square-foot, four-story, 271 space parking garage, according to city documents. The development will go on 4.2 acres at 2005 Mizell Ave. in Winter Park. City commissioners unanimously approved the project on May 23.

This project is designed to provide additional facilities and fitness programs for the 25-year-old Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center YMCA, and to serve as space for the foundation to meet with other nonprofit organizations, said health foundation CEO Patricia Maddox.

The project first was announced in October 2015. Construction is slated to begin next month with an estimated completion of December 2017, according to previous Orlando Business Journal reports. North Carolina-based Duda Paine Architects is the design firm, and Orlando-based Jack Jennings & Sons is the general contractor. The project will create about 400 temporary construction jobs, John Jennings, vice president of Jack Jennings & Sons, previously told OBJ.
